What is GOTS organic cotton?

For many of us, there is nothing more beautiful and comfortable when it comes to bedding than natural cotton. The fabric is popular all over the world and for good reason.

Unfortunately, growing cotton is often harmful to the environment. Due to the high demand for cotton, many farmers resort to aggressive pesticides to increase their yields, at the expense of people and nature.

GOTS certified organic cotton offers an environmentally friendly alternative.
“The aim of the standard is to define requirements to ensure the ecological status of textiles, from the extraction of raw textile fibres through environmentally friendly and socially responsible production to the labelling of the final products, thereby achieving credible product safety for the end consumer.” GOTS Standard
Products with the GOTS certificate are therefore identified as organic along the entire supply chain, to protect workers and our environment.

The entire supply chain is strictly and regularly monitored. Some of the criteria that must be met are:

  • The cotton is planted without genetically modified seeds and without pesticides

  • Farmers have international organic farming accreditation

  • Water and energy consumption are monitored during production

  • Fair social conditions: no child labour, safe working conditions, no excessive working hours and no inhumane treatment

Only when the entire supply chain, from cultivation to the final product, meets all GOTS criteria, does the manufacturer receive the GOTS certificate and may label its products as certified.
