Bed linen: fabrics and materials in comparison
A search for bed linen quickly yields various options and descriptions. But what exactly is Mako satin? What are the advantages of percale? And which fabric is suitable for which season?
You can find out more in our overview:
Percale bed linen
Percale is a particularly dense weave in which the horizontal and vertical threads run evenly and regularly over one another. This creates a hard-wearing fabric that feels slightly cooling. This is why percale bed linen is particularly popular in summer, although it is suitable all year round. Both our Tencel and our organic cotton collections are percale fabrics.
Satin bed linen
In contrast to percale, satin has a vertical thread woven over several horizontal threads. The fabric has a slight sheen and a smooth surface. Satin bed linen is generally a little less durable than percale. Mako satin is made from specially high-quality Egyptian cotton.
Tencel bed linen
Tencel is made from plant fibers and is considered particularly sustainable. Tencel is also known as Lyocell. The fiber feels smooth and supple and is even more breathable than cotton. Since Tencel regulates temperature, the fabric is a good option in both summer and winter. At Undercover we combine Tencel with high-quality cotton. This creates a light fabric that feels super soft and comfortable. Find our Tencel bed linen here .
Seersucker bed linen
Seersucker bedding has a crepe-like, crumpled surface and is usually made of cotton. The fabric is used for both bedding and fashion.
Bamboo bedding
Bamboo is a viscose fabric and is considered soft and breathable. The fabric feels similar to Tencel, but the environmental friendliness of bamboo fiber is very controversial. For example, in Tencel, in contrast to bamboo, over 99% of the solvent is reused. You can find out more about this topic in our blog post.
Organic bed linen
More and more manufacturers are selling organic cotton. With organic cotton, you should make sure that the material has a good certificate, such as GOTS. The GOTS certificate stands for organic fibers in which only a limited use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical additives is permitted during the production process. This is to protect the environment as well as the workers within the supply chain. Organic cotton alone is not a guarantee of quality: there is also better and worse quality in organic cotton. Our organic cotton collection is GOTS and OEKO-Tex certified and offers a wonderfully comfortable sleeping experience with a fiber density of 300.
